The Quisivati

The Quisivati, a faction known for their rabid technological pursuit and insatiable urge for privacy, chose to make their home on a large desolate island in The Chain of Tears called Carlsworth Flats. Known for its extensive maze like network of canyons, they found a deep rift valley and planted their flag. In their new home, they built a massive tower which contains virtually all their needs; self sustaining hydroponics as well as living, working and recreational facilities. They called their first home The Tower of Intellect.

The Citizens of The Quisivati are force fed advanced education from a young age. Families and singles enjoy spacious private living, and top notch state paid health care. Their institutes of learning are very exclusive, but considered to be nearly on par with or superior to their rival scientific institutes. Though their general curriculum tends to be lacking due to their focuses on the sciences, their compulsory education is among the finest on the moon.

However, their scientific studies and the technology they produce differ grossly from those created by Aquilon or Xanadu. Whereas Aquilon represents a steady attempt to move forward at a reasonable rate and Xanadu represents solid reliable technology, The Quisivati spreads its technological roots in all directions, including fringe sciences which would otherwise be considered complete lunacy. Many of their technological feats are either so advanced, or simply so radically different from the technology of others, as to appear as magic to the uninitiated. To be put in the most blunt fashion, their areas of study can be esoteric, and almost arcane. With the great difficulties outsiders have in ever attaining entrance to a Quisivati academy, it is far more time and cost effective to seek education elsewhere and learn sciences which are far less inscrutable to the world at large.

The Vati, as they're known, tend to be extremely whimsical and will often take a more circuitous route than necessary to solve a problem or engage in personal interactions with others. They have developed an extreme love of keeping their substantial knowledge to themselves, unless they need to give it to others, and tend to barter secrets for secrets in an almost amazingly neurotic way.

While the Vati are an extremely skeptical group of people with regards to outsiders, medeans tend to be frowned on the most. The technology to create them is seen as a bizarre pseudo scientific cult. The irony of this is not lost on those who understand the faction as its citizens are basically a cult to the god of science. As such, medeans have to work harder than others to receive the respect they deserve from their peers.

The Quisivati get along well with most of their political rivals and colleagues, however they find themselves extremely wary in their dealings with both Aquilon and Xanadu. These two extremely powerful nations represent formidable threats to their position as scientific and technological innovators, as well as having a pair of ideologies which strongly conflict with their own.

At the very end of the 20th century, people on Earth began developing new technologies such as internet, better embedded systems, etc. During the beginning of the 21st century everything was computerized and it went so far as to the point where everything was more or less a computer. Even the toilet was voice activated and furniture in your house had small wheels and could be moved by voice control. As it is well known, such advancements in technology came at a price. People more or less stopped depending on each other. They stopped going out and meeting each other in the flesh. They became colder towards one another and cared only for themselves, which was also one of the reasons why things went so very wrong later on.

It is therefore not surprising that Trapper Town (Walk of Man) on New Horizon shuns technologies of every kind. Not wanting to repeat the mistakes of their past, the people of Trapper Town and the Walk of Man only use technology when needed, and nothing more. They are simple folk, lacking sophistication, and they are slow to accept new ideas and new concepts. Aquilon's Reach is the opposite, which causes a lot of conflicts between the two. Trapper Town hates that Aquilonians are trying to contaminate the world with new technologies and they believe that they are the proof that people can live without it and be better off at that.

Aquilon's Reach and Xanadu are well known competitors. They each have a different sort of technological path, they argue over which is best, and they clash on ideology and social values as well. Both of them develop state-of-the-art weapons, which are sold all over the world, and both want to be known as the world's prime weapons manufacturer. Aquilon favors high energy technology for its weapons, and more sophisticated technologies, like energy shielding, where as Xanadu focuses on slug based weaponry and solid state armoring. When one of them manages to develop something new and groundbreaking, the other often tries to steal it.

Xanadians are very conservative. They believe that hard work always equals success so people who aren't successful are just lazy. Aquilonians are extremely liberal individuals. They believe that many people work hard but may not be successful for a variety of reasons such as racism or classism. They believe that the government can help solve these inequalities.

Aquilonians see Xanadians as outmoded, socially repressed lunatics led by doddering old men. Xanadians see Aquilonians as lunatics without morals or scruples, pushing pie in the sky technology and eroding their social values. Xanadu also dislikes Promethean Cyborgs and Medeans. They discriminate against them in a manner not unlike racism, which more often than not becomes the main reason for conflicts.
